About GNU/Linux
No, it’s not edible. It’s Linux! Linux comes in many different forms, making it hard to describe. Linux originally began as a community project founded by Linus Torvalds to create a free, open source clone of the Unix operating system. It was paired with the free, open source GNU software to form the GNU/Linux operating system. Today, Linux has grown tremendously, both technically and in popularity. Although predominately known for its use in servers, Linux is being used more and more on desktops. Even though there are many forms of Linux today, it is still one of the most predominate examples of free software and open source development.
